Bridge Collapses On Expressway After Truck Crash
A driver had a lucky escape after his truck
hit a bridge, causing part of it to collapse on to an Oklahoma City
expressway, officials have said.
The flatbed truck was carrying a "boom lift" which is
thought to have struck part of the bridge above the Northwest Expressway
on Thursday.Video footage showed the vehicle trapped underneath a large part of the bridge structure.
The driver, who was not hurt, managed to get out of the truck after the collapse.
Sergeant Ashley Peters, of Oklahoma City police, said: "A semi made contact with the bridge and it collapsed - we're not sure what the cause of him crashing into the bridge was."
District Fire Chief Benny Fulkerson said the bridge will be closed indefinitely and will "likely be completely rebuilt".
Kristy Yager, a spokeswoman for Oklahoma City, said the expressway will remain closed "until further notice".
She added that engineers were investigating the damage, but there was no estimate on how long repairs would take.
The Northwest Expressway was shut on Thursday, causing heavy traffic in the area.
