EFCC quizzes Edo PDP chairman over N700m campaign funds

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has invited the Edo State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Dan Orbih, over the N700 million allegedly received by the party to fund the 2015 presidential election.

A source said that Orbih was being quizzed at the Port Harcourt office of the EFCC over his alleged role in the collection and disbursement of the said funds.

The state coordinator of the campaign organisation of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, and a former deputy governor of the state, Mr. Lucky Imasuen, had earlier been quizzed by the anti-graft agency on the matter.

Ize-Iyamu, an aspirant of PDP for the September 10 gubernatorial election, and Imasuen, who was then a member of the party, were said to have received the money on behalf of the party.

The money was said to have been allegedly withdrawn from a branch of Fidelity Bank on Mission road in Benin.

Ize-Iyamu had in a press briefing explained that the money was taken to the residence of a leader of the party where it was allegedly shared to party executives in the 18 local government areas of the state.

But ‎Imasuen, who is now a member of the All Progressives Congress, denied any knowledge on how the money was shared.
