 Chelsea forward may have revealed the truth to none other than Sergio 
Ramos. <br />
The two Spain colleagues enjoyed a warm embrace in the tunnel ahead of a
 pre-season clash between Real Madrid and Chelsea on Saturday.<br />

But the chat between the pair suddenly turned serious when Ramos asked Costa when they would be neighbours again.<br />

<i>"Why don't you come back to Madrid?"</i> the defender was seen mouthing by television cameras before the game.<br />
While the Chelsea man had his back to prying eyes, Ramos' reaction gave some indication of the conversation.<br />

<i>"They won't let you?"</i> he replied, surprised, upon hearing the ex-Atletico Madrid man's answer.<br />

Real's star then let slip a possible reason why Diego Simeone will 
not be enjoying a reunion with his former striker at the Vicente 
Calderon: <i>"Because Gameiro is coming?"</i><br />

Costa had also dismissed questions from Spanish press as he entered 
Michigan Stadium over a return to Madrid with a wave of his finger, 
suggesting that while his future remains uncertain, it is more likely to
 lie in London than the Spanish capital for the time being.

 Swaraj said "large numbers" of Indians had lost their jobs in the 
kingdom, leaving them with not enough money to buy food.<br />
The Indian community in Jeddah, with the government's help, has distributed food to those in need at the weekend. <br />
Growth has slowed in Saudi Arabia as the country suffers the effect of lower oil prices.<br />
Ms
 Swaraj appealed on Twitter for the three-million-strong Indian 
community in the country to "help your fellow brothers and sisters". <br />
"I assure you that no Indian worker rendered unemployed in Saudi Arabia will go without food," <a class="story-body__link-external" href="https://twitter.com/SushmaSwaraj/status/759344168032280578">she wrote</a>.<br />
A
 government minister is travelling to Saudi Arabia, Ms Swaraj said. He 
is expected to help with arrange an airlift of laid-off Indians who are 
unable to afford the air fare home.

Leader of the Bank’s delegation, Mrs 
Rosemond Offei-Awuku, disclosed this in Bauchi at the weekend at a 
stakeholders’ meeting with representatives of various ministries and 
government agencies.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The meeting was held to discuss the various‎ areas of intervention which the money would be disbursed and channelled into.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
She said that the grant will enable the 
bank to key in to the rebuilding efforts of the Nigerian Federal 
Government for the North East region.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
She noted that out of the amount, $150 
million will be channelled into the water and sanitation sector while 
the remaining $100 million will be used for socio-economic interventions
 in various sectors of economic empowerment like, job creation, skills 
acquisition and other areas.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Mrs Offei-Awuku noted that the grant was
 reviewed upwards by the bank after other components were added apart 
from the water, sanitation and hygiene sector.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Responding, the Bauchi State 
Commissioner for Water Resources, Mohammed Ghali Abdulhamid, welcomed 
the delegation to the state and commended the African Development Bank 
for the support.</div>

The World Bank and the Sokoto State 
Government will execute various projects in 10 Local government areas of the state that worth N8.8 billion.</div>

To be executed under the Nigeria Erosion
 and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP), the collaboration is aimed 
at addressing the menace of gully erosion and land degradation in 
selected communities across the state.</div>

Gada LGA, and construction of main collector drainage and gutter from 
Tudun Wada area to River Sokoto in Sokoto South LGA,”</i> </div>

Others include construction of drainage 
gutter from Goronyo Dam for tree planting and protection activity on 
desertification, construction of earth dam and afforestation activities 
to help in reducing erosion in Ungushi district of Kebbe LGA and 
finally, construction of drainages, earth dams and land reclamation 
across multiple locations in Tambuwal LGA.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The rest, according to the statement, 
include construction of drainages, earth dam, afforestation activities 
to control erosion of Durbawa in Kware LGA and construction of earth 
dam, drainage and afforestation activities to check flood and erosion in
 Sifawa in Bodinga LGA as well as construction of drainage gutters to 
alleviate flood in Wamakko LGA.</div>

said ex-Niger Delta militants will start receiving their stipends on 
Monday.<br />

Boroh consequently appealed to the ex-militants in the region to shelve the planned protests scheduled to hold on Monday.<br />

In 2015 alone, people 
consumed four billion hours of pornographic content and over 50 per cent
 did so from their smartphones. The porn industry has never had it this 
good and this is basically because mobile technology has made it so easy
 to access porn freely and conveniently. Do you know that it is 
estimated that one third of the entire Internet traffic is pornography 
related?</div>

this piece is a recent experience I had. I walked into the office of an 
elderly acquaintance whom I have a cordial relationship with. Although 
he said hello, I noticed he was engrossed with his phone. I moved closer
 and there he was on a porn site. He did not even bother to shift 
ground. So, I said hello again and hurriedly left the office.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Walking out of his office, I asked 
myself; if this guy who has given birth to a teenager spends his time 
consuming porn, what then does he expect from his ward? I bet you that 
in today’s world, anyone who frequents the Internet without aim and 
purpose is simply a candidate for porn addiction.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I remember carrying out a private 
research a few years ago and I discovered that at least 10 pornographic 
websites were among the top 100 websites that Nigerians visited. You 
heard me right; forget all the pretence.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
We are a society that avoids the issue 
of sex or sex education like a plague, but because of my knowledge of 
the Internet, I believe we should start looking for innovative ways to 
protect our young minds from becoming porn addicts.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
My focus in this piece is not exactly on
 adults, although my personal preference will be for everyone to stay 
off pornography, but then, I know that is impossible. So, I rather focus
 on bringing up the issues so that children and young teenagers do not 
become victims of pornography or become entangled in the vicious and 
complex world of porn and the kingpins behind them.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
According to a 2015 BBC news report, 10 
per cent of U.K. 12 and 13 year olds fear they are addicted to porn. 
Twelve per cent of 12-13 year olds admitted to participating in a 
sexually explicit video.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I know this is the part many parents 
will hate to admit, but the possibilities are real as long as you have 
rewarded your wards with an Internet enabled smart device.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
You may say this is not the UK but 
Nigeria. If you ask anyone who understands the Nigerian ‘peculiar’ 
technology landscape, he or she will tell you that we usually leapfrog 
many other countries in adopting new technologies and also how we 
consume content. What this simply means is that it may start slowly but 
before you know it, it takes off very quickly like wild fire if not 
stemmed.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The question is; what are we doing about
 it or are we just waiting for the worse to happen? This is because, as 
access and affordability increases, the quest or curiosity to want to 
consume porn content via mobile increases. Should we just raise our 
hands helplessly or try to at least fight for the future of our young 
ones?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Quite frankly, it is a tough one because
 of how ubiquitous mobile is and coupled with the fact that the porn 
industry is a multi-billion dollar industry with a huge war chest to be 
at the forefront of creating content for future technologies. In fact, 
as I write, some of them have started releasing some porn content that 
is suitable for virtual reality consumption which again is hinged on the
 instant success of Pokémon go.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The Internet, for me, is a two-edged 
sword that has a good and bad side. In my opinion, porn is simply on the
 other sides of it. I remember I had a chat with Muyiwa Matuluko of 
Techpoint.ng, who informed me about the argument that porn drives the 
adoption of new technologies, particularly in developed economies. I 
searched online and saw a number of articles to back that up, but then, 
it brings up all sorts of theories which time will not allow us to go 
into right now.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In another survey report commissioned by
 the centre-left Institute for Public Policy Research think tank and 
published on the Daily Mail website, it was discovered that 80 per cent 
of UK teens say porn is “too easy” to access or stumble upon on the 
Internet. About 46 per cent of teens said “sexting” is a part of 
everyday life for teenagers and 70 per cent said porn was seen as normal
 by their peers at school. Finally, two-thirds of girls and nearly 50 
per cent of boys said growing up would be easier if porn was harder to 
access.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I wonder how many Nigerian parents know 
about sexting. Ok, from this point I will like to address what I think 
we should be doing as a people, starting with parents and of course the 
rest of the society.</div>

 if you must understand the type of content they consume.</div>

I came across a story of how a 12 year 
old girl simply added filters to her mother’s email account because they
 both used the same free email service and she did not want her mum to 
know she sees explicit content and adverts every now and then. Her mum 
never discovered this basic trick and I bet many parents here would not 
discover either.</div>

of recommended candidates for admission earlier sent to Universities and
 other tertiary institutions.<br />

The announcement was contained in a statement by the spokesperson of JAMB, Dr. Fabian Benjmin.<br />

Adamu Adamu, during the policy committee meeting.<br />

It said the earlier list was sent to help speed up the process of 
admission so as to allow other tiers of institutions also conduct their 
admission.<br />

“Candidates should not panic because this is part of the process of 
the 2016 admission exercise. JAMB regrets any inconvenience this 
decision would have caused the tertiary institutions,” he stated.<br />

The Registrar/Chief Executive of JAMB, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, had given
 conditions for the 2016 admission saying it would only give approval 
“after appropriate screening of the candidates by the institutions.”<br />

He had said, “JAMB wishes to state that the latest list of candidates
 sent to all the tertiary institutions contains candidates who qualified
 for screening based on the individual institutions capacity. It’s not 
in any way an admission list.<br />

“However, if this list is not sufficient for the need of any 
institution, such institution can source from the omnibus printout 
earlier sent to them by the Board. The public and all tertiary 
institutions should note that admission will only be approved by the 
board after appropriate screening of the candidates by the institutions.<br />

“The list which is made up of candidates who met the national cut-off
 point within the set criteria are sent to the institutions. Again, for 
purposes of clarity, all institutions that have need for more can source
 from their omnibus printout as stated above. The candid intention of 
the Board is to ensure that available spaces are adequately utilised.”<br />

The Federal Government had clarified its ban on Post-Unified Tertiary
 Matriculation Examination and the general admission procedures, saying 
it “does not in any way affect the statutory role of the Senate of any 
University or the academic boards of any tertiary institution conducting
 its admissions.”</div>

including one on July 7 in Dallas which saw five officers shot dead by a
 black extremist as they were protecting a peaceful march against police
 brutality.</div>

they were facing multiple shooters. Instead, it turned out to be one

 the judiciary.</div>

Sheriff said the ruling of the court had boosted his 
desire to wipe out impunity even as he announced his readiness to take 
the PDP to its original owners at the grass roots level.</div>

Sheriff also disclosed that he would convene an expanded 
caucus meeting of the PDP which he said would comprise the Board of 
Trustees, National Assembly Caucus and state chairmen to chart the next 
line of action.</div>

However, the caretaker committee had reacted and said the 
court ruling was misinterpreted as it did not set aside the Port 
Harcourt ruling that instituted the committee.</div>

 police forces have tracked down and arrested 14 people on a “most 
wanted” list in the six months since its launch, many thanks to public 
tip-offs, officials said Friday.<br />

<i>“In at least eight of these arrests, the leads provided via the 
online platform played a direct role in locating the fugitives,” </i>the 
European police agency, Europol, said in a statement.<br />

Police forces from across the European Union came together to launch 
www.eumostwanted.eu after criticism over a lack of coordination in the 
wake of November’s jihadist attacks in Paris, which left 130 people 
dead.<br />

Those now behind bars include Belgian-born Salah Abdeslam, a key 
suspect in the attacks, and Ibrahim Abrini, the brother of Mohamed 
Abrini, a Moroccan-Belgian implicated in both the Paris assault and the 
March Brussels bombings.<br />

Their arrests were not directly linked to the website, which has received millions of views since it was launched on January 29.<br />

But in February Romanian <i>“yoga teacher and spiritual mentor”</i> 
Gregorian Bivolaru, 64, was captured in a Paris book store after years 
on the run thanks to a tip-off.<br />

AFP reported in June that a French court has ordered him to be 
extradited to Romania to face charges of exploiting children and child 
pornography between 2002 and 2004.<br />

Bivolaru was targeted on the most wanted list along with other 
fugitives including a Belgian tracked down to Gabon, a Pole discovered 
in Malta and a wanted Swede located in Britain.<br />

Italian mafia boss Ernesto Fazzalari, 46, wanted for murder, was 
captured in a remote part of Italy late last month after two decades on 
the run, according to media reports.<br />

<i>“Many of those on the list were caught in different European 
countries,”</i> Europol press officer Tine Hollevoet told AFP, adding it 
showed the benefits of cooperation.<br />

Twenty-eight of the original 45 names on the list still remain, and 
Hollevoet urged people to look again at the site as new names have been 
added.<br />

<i>“You never know if you will recognise someone,”</i> she said.<br />

Each national police force can post two people onto the list, and 
once someone is arrested their names and profiles are removed and a new 
fugitive selected.<br />

A second woman has now been added to the list. Cypriot Efi Irodotou, 
29, is wanted for murder after a 17-year-old boy died in a 2007 
hit-and-run car accident in the island’s southern resort of Limassol.<br />

She joins Cecilia Kettunen, 30, still wanted by Finnish authorities for<i> “aggravated fraud… worth a significant amount of money”.</i><br />

Men from different countries are also wanted on a variety of charges including rape, murder, extortion and drug trafficking.

country had been scuttled because of the indiscipline of public office 
holders, citing the 1983 Lagos metro-line project of the Alhaji Lateef 
Jakande-led administration, which was scuttled by the military

Four
 people suffering from the Zika virus in Florida are probably the first 
cases contracted within the US, health officials say.</div>
So far, 
cases outside of Latin America and the Caribbean, where the virus is 
prevalent, have been spread by travel to that region or sexual 
transmission.<br />
The four Florida cases mean US mosquitoes may be carrying the virus.<br />

The
 Florida department of health said "a high likelihood exists that four 
cases are the result of local transmission", centred on one small area 
just north of downtown Miami.<br />
More than 1,650 cases of Zika <a class="story-body__link-external" href="http://www.cdc.gov/zika/">have so far been detected in the United States</a>, but the Florida cases would be the first in the US not involving sexual contact or foreign travel.<br />
"This is not just a Florida issue," Gov Rick Scott said. "It's a national issue - we just happen to be at the forefront."<br />

Three
 of those suffering from the virus are in Miami-Dade county, and another
 in neighbouring Broward county. They are the most densely populated 
counties in Florida.<br />
Gov Scott said the cases involved three men and a woman, and that none had been hospitalised.<br />

        </figure>To confirm whether Zika is being carried by mosquitoes 
locally, scientists are surveying houses and people within a 150-yard 
(metre) radius of the cases, the flying distance of the insect.<br />
In
 February, the World Health Organization declared the Zika virus a 
global public health emergency because of the risk to newborn children.<br />
In severe cases, children can die and babies who survive can face intellectual disability and developmental delays.<br />
Gov
 Scott asked all residents of affected areas to get rid of standing 
water, where mosquitoes thrive, and for residents to wear insect 
repellent.<br />

The state police command in Enugu on Friday(July 29) arraigned a seven-year-old 
boy, Chibuike Miracle Oramalu, before a magistrate court, for alleged 
murder.</div>
<div class="p1">
Chibuike, a primary 2 pupil in a nursery and primary 
school, had on May 29, accidentally fired a gun, which killed 
12-year-old Oluebube Boniface.</div>
<div class="p1">
The incident occurred in the Independence Layout area of Enugu.</div>
<div class="p1">
The gun belonged to Mr. Edwin Oforma, who employed Chibuike’s mother as a cleaner and housekeeper in his house.</div>

Following the incident, the boy was initially detained by the police from May 30 till July 13, when he was released.</div>
<div class="p1">
Although Chibuike’s mother, Mrs Nwakaego Oramalu, and her 
lawyer, Mr. Olu Omotayo, of the Civil Rights Realisation and Advancement
 Network, had raised the alarm over the little boy’s detention, the 
Enugu State Police Command claimed he was in “protective custody”.</div>
<div class="p1">
However, about two weeks after his release, Chibuike 
was on Friday arraigned, before an Enugu magistrate court over alleged 
conspiracy and murder.</div>

The militant group continues to target countries in the region, including Nigeria and Cameroon, with bomb and suicide attacks.<br />
The
 UN's children's agency Unicef warned last week that almost 250,000 
children in parts of Nigeria's Borno state, formerly controlled by Boko

President Joseph Kabila is required by the constitution to step down this year but no poll date has been set.<br />
The intelligence services deny the accusations. <br />

future and that she was threatened with losing her job, even 
imprisonment, if he were not convicted. <br />
After sending the letter, she went into hiding. <br />
The Congolese capital Kinshasa, says Mr Katumbi 
is seen as a favourite in the race for the presidency and is expected to
 return to the country before an opposition rally on Sunday.<br />
Opponents
 of President Kabila say he is trying to stall elections to stay in 
power, but the constitution states he must stand down after his two 
terms in November. <br />

name would be Jabhat Fateh al-Sham [Front for the Conquest of Syria].<br />

Al-Qaeda's second-in-command had previously given the group's backing to the move.<br />

 the recording aired by al-Jazeera's Arabic news channel, Mr al-Julani 
thanked the "commanders of al-Qaeda for having understood the need to 
break ties".<br />
He said the decision was made to "expose the 
deception of the international community, namely the US and Russia, in 
their relentless bombardment and displacement of the Muslim masses of 
Syria under the pretext of bombing al-Nusra Front".<br />
The new group "will have no links whatsoever with foreign parties", he added.<br />
Analysts
 say the Nusra Front decided to rebrand itself after the US and Russia 
stepped up their military efforts against the group. <br />
<figure class="media-landscape has-caption full-width"><span class="image-and-copyright-container"></span></figure>Last
 week, US Secretary of State John Kerry and his Russian counterpart 
Sergei Lavrov said they had agreed on "concrete steps" to tackle 
jihadist groups like the Nusra Front and the so-called Islamic State 
(IS).<br />
The US has listed the Nusra Front as a terrorist 
organisation and it was excluded from February's cessation of 
hostilities agreement.<br />
In an announcement earlier on Thursday, 
al-Qaeda's second in command, Ahmed Hassan Abu al-Khayr, said the 
organisation had instructed "the leadership of the Nusra Front to go 
ahead with what protects the interests of Islam and Muslims and what 
protects jihad" in Syria. <br />
The message included a brief comment 
from al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahri saying: "The brotherhood of Islam 
is stronger than any organisational links that change and go away."<br />
Al-Nusra first announced its existence in a video posted online in early 2012, some months after the Syrian civil war began.<br />
It has been claimed that <a class="story-body__link" href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-31764114">Qatar has relatively close ties with the group</a>, probably through intermediaries.<br />
In April 2013, al-Nusra refused to join forces with IS and pledged allegiance instead to al-Qaeda.<br />
Clashes broke out between the two groups and al-Nusra was pushed out of its base in Deir Ezzor, eastern Syria.<br />
Observers say the group numbers between 5,000 and 10,000 fighters, the vast majority of them Syrian.<br />

French prosecutors 
have identified the second man involved in the killing of a priest in a 
Normandy church on Tuesday as 19-year-old Abdel Malik Petitjean.</div>
Like the other attacker, Adel Kermiche, he was known to the security services.<br />
The
 teenagers were shot dead by police outside the church in 
Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray where they had killed Father Jacques Hamel, 86,
 and taken hostages.<br />
So-called Islamic State (IS) released a video of what it said were the two men pledging allegiance to the group.<br />
"Following
 DNA tests, it emerged that the terrorist has been identified as Abdel 
Malik Nabil Petitjean," a source in the Paris prosecutor's office said.<br />
Petitjean,
 from a town in eastern France, had been on a watch list as a potential 
security threat since June after trying to enter Syria from Turkey.<br />
He
 had been harder than Kermiche to identify because his body was badly 
disfigured in the police shooting, but officers found an ID card 
belonging to him in Kermiche's home and confirmed his identity in a DNA 
match with his mother.<br />
After Petitjean was named, his mother, Yamina, denied he could have been the killer.<br />
                                                                                                    "I know my kid, he is kind. I did not produce a devil. He never talked about IS," she told BFM television<span style="color: grey;">.</span><br />

 media have reported sources close to the investigation as saying 
anti-terrorism police had been searching for a man in the days before 
the attack who "strongly resembled" Petitjean, after receiving a tip-off
 from a foreign intelligence agency about an imminent attack. <br />
A photograph of the man said to be planning the attack had been supplied but not his name.<br />
Kermiche, also 19, was being monitored by police and was wearing a surveillance tag at the time of the attack.<br />
He was arrested twice last year trying to reach Syria and was awaiting trial for alleged membership of a terrorist organisation.<br />
The French government has faced strong criticism from political opponents over perceived security failings since the <a class="story-body__link" href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-36800730">Bastille Day lorry attack in Nice</a> two weeks ago in which more than 80 people died.<br />
President
 Francois Hollande has said France will form a National Guard from 
reserve forces, in an attempt to prevent further attacks.<br />
He has 
urged "patriots" to sign up to become reservists and has said 
parliamentary consultations on forming the Guard will take place in 
September "so this force can be created as fast as possible to protect 
the French".<br />
The comments came two days after Kermiche and 
Petitjean stormed the church in Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray, a suburb of 
Rouen, during morning Mass.<br />
They slit the throat of the elderly priest before being killed by police.<br />
One of four people taken hostage - said to be an elderly parishioner - suffered severe knife wounds.<br />

attack in Ansbach on Sunday that injured 15 people was carried out by a 
Syrian who had been denied asylum but given temporary leave to stay.<br />

 axe and knife attack on a train in Wuerzburg on 18 July that wounded 
five people was carried out by an asylum seeker from Afghanistan.<br />
Both men had claimed allegiance to so-called Islamic State.<br />
The
 deadliest recent attack - in Munich on 22 July which left nine dead - 
was carried out by a German teenager of Iranian extraction but was not 
jihadist-related.

Ekwe Nwomah have been sentenced to death by hanging by a Delta State 
High Court sitting at Ogwashi-Uku in Aniocha South Local Government of 
the state.<br />

The court presided over by Justice A.O. Akpovi convicted the three 
accused persons for conspiracy in count one and armed robbery in count 
four and subsequently sentenced them to death by hanging.<br />

 Oseni and the silence of the Lagos state government and the police 
authority, the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU)
 Lagos State University (LASU), chapter has given the state government 
and the security personnel 24 hours to secure his release.</header>
The union also expressed concerned over the worsening insecurity in the 
24 communities in Iba, Ojo Badagry and other areas and called on the 
government and the Lagos State Police Command to beef up security around
 the waterways.<br />
Addressing newsmen on Thursday after an emergency congress of SSANU, the
 Secretary of the union, Mr. Awoyemi Bola, decried the continuous 
silence of the state government and state police command 13 days after 
Oba Oseni was kidnapped in his palace.<br />
Giving reasons for SSANU’s reaction to the monarch abduction, Bola 
explained that Iba is the host community of LASU and some of his members
 reside in the area thus the union can not remain silence in the face of

Resolution, South Africa has said Nigeria and South Africa need each 
other to move Africa forward.<br />
According to him, there are lessons both countries can learn from each 
other, particularly in areas of governance, development and growth. 
Adebajo spoke in Lagos while responding to Daily Sun queries on the 
status of the two countries vis-à-vis lessons Nigeria can learn from 
post-apartheid South Africa. He was in Nigeria to launch his latest 
book: “Thabo Mbeki: Africa’s Philosopher King.”<br />
Though he believes South Africa is making same mistakes Nigeria is 
making, he said post-apartheid South African leaders did not only 
inherit first class infrastructures, but they built on it and developed 
it.<br />
“There is certain efficiency in the way things are, they have produced 
world class multinational companies, they have first class 
infrastructure where there is road, rail, etc. South Africa was able to 
host the first World Cup in Africa in 2010. The planning and general 
organization of the tournament was flawless.<br />
“ South Africa institutions are also very strong. Take for example the 
judiciary, the fact that the office of the Public Protector can enforce 
the president to pay back money he used to renovate his private home 
shows that the country’s court system is very strong and independent. 
These are some of the things Nigeria can learn from South Africa.<br />
On reason for launching a book on on South African ex-president in 
Nigeria, Adebajo explained he has brought the message to Nigeria that 
“we must be a pan-African nation.” He said the spirit of brotherhood is 
not too much among African countries. He buttressed his argument when he
 said, “if you read the newspapers in any African country, there is not 
enough coverage of the rest of African countries. But it is important 
that we know about each other. It is so important because South Africa 
and Nigeria have extremely trade relations, it is about three billion 
U.S. dollars between both countries last year.<br />
“It is also important that we learn about the leadership of both 
countries and what is happening in the countries. These are reasons why 
launching the book in Nigeria is important for Nigerian audience.<br />
But why write a book on Mbeki.  Adebajo said Mbeki is the man to beat. 
Hear him: “Today, Mbeki is the most important African political figure 
of his generation.<br />
South Africa, as you know, is the most industrialised country in Africa.
 Mbeki was the most dominant figure in South African politics for 14 
years.<br />
“So, even when the legendary Nelson Mandela was in the president, Mbeki 
effectively was running the country. And I think he is important because
 of the foreign policy vision he had.<br />
He tried to pursue African socio-political and economic renewal. One of 
the important things Mbeki was arguing for was that Africa through its 
own resources develops a form of democracy that can be adapted to our 
own system.<br />
“Mbeki was also the architect of the New Partnership for Africa 
Development. He was responsible for some of the key institutions of the 
African Union, like the Pan African Parliament, the African Peer Review 
mechanism. Not all of the institutions were successful and not all of 
them were in public, but I listed his ideas and try to drive them 
forward. This is why Mbeki is important.”<br />
On the uniqueness of his book, Adebayo has this to say: “The beauty of 
this book is that it is a small book that is only 168 pages. So, the 
book tries to reach beyond academic audience with popular readership.<br />
It is for members of the general public who are interested in ideas, 
people who are interested in literature and general reading and those 
who are interested in African politics will be interested in reading 
this book. It is not just for political leaders only.<br />
Even with the status of Nigeria as “Giant of Africa,” and the robust 
pre-apartheid relations that existed between it and the black 
leadership, Nigerians continue to experience xenophobic attacks. And how
 does Adebajo feel about the situation.<br />
“I think some of the treatment of Nigerians in South Africa has been 
abysmal. I don’t think anybody should try to sugarcoat that. It is not 
only Nigerians that are involved in criminal activities. So are 
Russians, so are South Africans, Britons, there is no stereotype that 
can single out the same as Nigerians tend to be.”<br />
He said Nigeria has tried to deal with the problem even as he wants the 
Federal Government to do more. He believes some of the measures put in 
place by both governments will mitigate the situation. “There is a 
bi-national commission between South Africa and Nigeria that now meet at
 the presidential level. Visits by President Jacob Zuma and President 
Muhammadu Buhari to each country can improve ties. People-to-People 
relationship should be encouraged and Nigerians traveling to South 
Africa to conduct honest business should not be restricted in anyway by 
South Africans.”<br />
Adebajo does not agree that Africa is engulfed in conflicts. Rather, he 
argues that conflicts have been drastically reduced compared to two 
decades ago. “If you look back, over two decades ago, there were over 
20, may be 20 active conflicts in Africa. Now, many of those conflicts 
have been resolved.<br />
There is Sierra Leone, and Liberia.<br />
Somalia is calmer although still volatile, the Democratic Republic of 
Congo (the Eastern part) is very volatile but much of the country has 
peacekeepers deployed.<br />
“So, I think we need to look at that. The other important thing is to 
realize that just having a think-tank does not mean that you’re going to
 resolve every single conflict.” He said part of his job at the Centre 
for Conflict Resolution is to analyse, research and proffer solutions 
and inform the people.”<br />
